HOBOKEN – Daniel Misdea, 27, has always wanted to be a published cartoonist and comes from a family of artists, including his uncle, Patrick McDonnell, who created the long-running daily Mutts comic strip in 1994.

Misdea originally drew Joe, the titular character of his upcoming graphic novel, “The Book of Joe,” while he was at his day job at an insurance company in trade support.

He said he instantly fell in love and felt a connection with the character.
